Our goal is to empower parents to reach their full potential through our programme.

Parents participate in weekly meetings to address communal living concerns, and we conduct a midway review at 6 weeks to assess progress. We also assist with Looked After Child (LAC) reviews and provide court-related support, including filing court reports by week 14, preparing position statements, and aiding with court attendance and witness evidence.

We have a dedicated health visitor at our centres, and we encourage parents to consult the local GP for any health concerns. Additionally, we offer specialised therapy sessions conducted by external professionals such as Clinical Psychologists, Healthy Relationship Practitioners, and Drug and Alcohol Specialists on a weekly basis.

We also provide a variety of supportive classes and sessions to equip parents with the tools needed to create the best environment for their child/ren. This includes smoking cessation, breastfeeding sessions, and basic life skills.

At PAFA, we use a variation of tools throughout the programme, to ensure parents have access to everything they need to create a nurturing environment for their child/ren to thrive in.

The tools we use throughout our programmes include an ‘Assessing Children and Families in Need’ Framework (Department of Health et al 2000) and various other tools including the ‘Parent Assess Model’, ‘Motivation to Change Work’, ‘Motivational Interviewing’, ‘Calder’s Risk Indicators’. We also use the ‘Signs of Safety’, ‘Graded Care Profile’, ‘Questionnaires Home Inventory’, ‘Vulnerability/Resilience Indication Model’, and ‘CAADA/DASH Assessment’ for Domestic Abuse.

Furthermore, we offer additional funded services such as 1-to-1 support, tailored to individual needs outlined in a care plan. We also provide outreach work in the community and resettlement support if needed.

Life Story Work

We provide life story work and a photo book to give parents the opportunity to document their child’s journey.

Observations

We conduct both informal and formal observations daily, along with structured assessment sessions, to ensure every parent in our care is offering the best support for their child.

Cognitive/Psychological Assessments

Cognitive and Psychological work and assessments can be carried out for families too to provide adjustments and strategies to support a safe environment.

Support Sessions

Sessions we offer parents include child development, healthy eating, financial budgeting, safe sleeping, personal hygiene, safety in the community, phone safety and British values.

Community Support

We offer community support to assist families in accessing activities and appointments, along with self-management guidance for each family in our care. At the midway point of the assessment, we discuss with the Local Authority the possibility of allowing families to go out on an unsupervised basis.

Abuse/Neglect Support

We offer support in understanding the impact of neglect and abuse, along with motivational group sessions aimed at assisting families in making positive changes in their lives.

We accept referrals from the Local Authority and legal representatives.

Typically, the Local Authority will have concerns regarding parental care or child safety, which will be addressed, supported, and assessed during their programme.

We are governed by Ofsted and we adhere to the National Minimum Standards (NMS) to provide a safeguarded environment for families under our care. To ensure compliance with current legislation, we engage an independent Regulation 25 Inspector who visits our premises monthly. During these visits, the Inspector interacts with Local Authorities, Directors, staff, and residents, and generates a report sent to Ofsted and the relevant Local Authorities with families at PAFA during that period.

If you are a local authority or legal representative and wish to make a referral, please contact us and one of our team members will be in touch with you with further information.

We have processes in place to ensure the safety of residents in our care is a priority, and children are protected at all times.

Please note that we retain the discretion to end any placement with immediate effect for resident families. This action may be taken if we perceive the risk to become unmanageable and detrimental to the child’s well-being, or if a parent declines to participate in the parenting assessment.

However, we prioritise the welfare of all residents and provide ample opportunities for families through our warning system and disruption meetings before terminating placements. If a placement is concluded, we endeavor to collaborate with Local Authorities to determine the next steps.

Similarly, Local Authorities reserve the right to terminate placements with immediate effect if dissatisfied with our services.
